There once was a cake-slice which lead a very ordinary life in Dudley. It cut Christmas cakes, and birthday cakes, and sometimes dreamed of maybe, one day, a wedding cake.

Then one day it was taken out of its nice velvet-lined sideboard drawer, put in Pat's handbag, and taken off to a new life of excitement. Pat promised it she would take it to Woking, where it would get to cut birthday and christmas cakes, and so much more. 'Going away to a new well paid permanent contract party' cakes. 'Taking Maternity Leave and giving a Secondment Opportunity party' cakes. 'Allegedly traditional for the place I went on holiday' cakes. 'We got a lottery grant' cakes. 'We didn't get a lottery grant' cakes. And even 'we don't seem to have had any cake for a while' cakes.

But first, Pat took the knife to Sarehole, where it was used to cut the 10 year anniversary cake. (Despite complaints that he was *blunt*). And a Birthday Cake.

He was soooo excited by the sounds and sights of the greater West Midlands that he decided he didn't want to settle down with a bunch of archivists, archaeologists, and other people who love cake, but that he would like to travel the world for a bit.

And so he contrived to fall into the Food Bag, and set off on his adventures ....
