A little adventure...
Nov. 25th, 2006 11:34 pmI've had a busy week, not helped by the excitement on Thursday night.
I was just going downstairs to bed, (internet upstairs, bedroom downstairs, I know it's weird) at about midnight when I noticed that the front door was open and then heard an unfamiliar male voice swearing outside. I looked out to find that Dad, hearing strange noises, had surprised two youths in the process of trying to steal our Fiesta. They'd forced their way in, bending the driver's door in the process, and were trying to hotwire it when he went out. Fortunately, their reaction to him banging on the car window was to do a runner rather than attack him. I just saw the back of them as they legged it across the road.
This was rather a shock, as I'm sure you can imagine. We've never had any problems in the past and the car was parked on our drive not on the road. You'd think they would at least have waited until the light had been turned out in the front room.
So, we called the police and were pleasantly surprised by their efficiency - they arrived within ten minutes. (Though our incident number was only 11, so I guess they were having a quiet evening.) They even got a dog team out, to see if they could track the culprits, but it was too cold and damp. So Dad parked the other car to block the Fiesta in, to try and prevent them making a second attempt, and I got to bed about 1am. Not entirely fun, when I had work the next day.
The Fiesta does seem to have a bit of an unlucky streak, since it's been driven into by a lorry, had its door crumpled by an idiot driving too close to it when it was parked and now this. Oh well, we now have a silver Corsa as a courtesy car, though it might have been politer not to plaster so much advertising all over it. :-)
