I spent the morning in Winchcombe, getting my hair cut, and visiting the Folk and Police Museum, which is small but very interesting. We had a friendly conversation with the volunteer manning the desk (a nice lady called Barbara), and I look forward to going back to read some of the folders of detailed information on various aspects of local history.

Then home, to hear the train whistle from steam railway - I'm sure one day it'll get old but at the moment it's still fun to hear.

Other than that, work has been okay this week, as I actually started serving genuine customers. The concentration required to get it right every time is pretty tiring sometimes, but you really do get a wide cross-section of the human race, all with their own stories to tell.

The nice lady called Barbara was quite probably my Mum - although it's possible there are other Barbaras who volunteer there, I suppose. She's short, with glasses, and she's the main local expert there - she wrote all the folders, and does all the school visits etc.

Well, she did say she used to live in Greet Rd, and talked about making up the folders, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I did wonder, because I know you said your Mum was involved with the museum but I'm afraid I wasn't confident enough to say, oh btw, do you know ladyofastolat?

She asked where we'd moved to and chatted about a gentleman who used to live in a bungalow right at the end of the houses on the Greet Rd, something of a character, who had her secretly helping him build greenhouses, while completely ignoring the concept of Health and Safety. :-)

That would be Fred. He promised to make me a sledge in the cold winter of 1981/2, but never did. Which is probably just as well, because it would probably have been unwieldy, rustic and rough and ready. :-)

I talked to my Mum on the phone tonight, and it was indeed her that you spoke to.

She was very helpful and altogether an exemplary museum attendant. :-)
