Snow

Those from more northern parts please excuse our excitement - this is the heaviest snowfall we've had for 5 years or so.

While it's not nearly as deep as in other parts of the country, living surrounded by hills means the buses have been cancelled (fortunately I wasn't supposed to be working today anyway) and so have the Santa specials on the steam railway.

It's always a struggle when areas that aren't used to snow get it - we had a heavy fall a few years back, and yes, everyone struggled. Of course if you live in snow country like a US friend of mine, they've got their grit and graders and snow tyres (sorry, *tires*) at the ready.

Yes, absolutely. And it kept falling all day, in temperatures that were only just freezing, so it was very slippery - not a good combination with steep, winding roads. Grit can only do so much when it keeps getting buried. :-)
