Well I've got 14 on the farm so far and have spread into the left and above squares, although I'm really struggling as to what words could be wanted. At least it corrects English usages into Merkin though (Plough = plow)

*grin* might be sensible. Once you get how the author has been thinking you get a reasonable distance - some of the connections seem quite idiosyncratic. I've spread out into six squares but with lots of gaps...

That's weird, I'm sorry if I messed yours up. It worked for me when I did it with janedavitt's answers.

Is the error message I keep getting because my stupidity is such I can't even start the game, or is it a real error message?

You should have a box on the right hand side with On the farm in the middle and on the left a grey box which says Your Guess. If you were to type say something like cow into the box, it would appear on the right, if of course it was a correct answer.

Or are you getting the error message before you even get that far?

I've managed 12 answers on the first square, and have branched into the one to the left, and the one above that. I am still a bit confused though.

I suspect some people just find it easier than others to follow the author's train of thought - I'm not doing brilliantly, but did manage to get some useful hints from janedavitt's original post.

The farm is also pretty American, though that may cause you less problems than it did me.
