A fun weekend - TS AGM in Coventry

Last weekend was my first trip away since the op, and I had an excellent time. I met a lot of friends and some interesting new people.

The AGM was remarkably firework-free and much to our relief some very helpful people such as wellinghall, the_marquis and wildfyre stepped forward to volunteer to help out. We also have a new MemSec, though we'll have to see whether we can inveigle her onto LJ. :-)

Yesterday we went to Kenilworth Castle, and although the weather was fairly bad we had a good visit. I even managed to climb right to the top, though that was enough, and I needed to go and sit in the cafe and eat excellent leek and potato soup. I hadn't taken my camera this time - but for anyone who's interested I've put the pictures I took on my last visit (2003) on my flickr account.

For those of you who missed the garden that was currently being recreated, I've put my picture of what it used to look like .





On the health front I've been signed off work for another two weeks, and have a consultant's appointment on Friday, so then we will have to see whether I am fit to go back to work. As I mentioned to a number of people at the weekend, I will probably take muuranker's advice and go back part time to start with.

Yes, it was really nice to see you. And I'm glad you're getting over the op.

I remember the garden well - I've been there in Roman kit several times, which is a bit anomalous! I forget why they're redoing it.

Thank you - it was great to get the chance to see you and Highlander.

They're putting a fountain in the middle, from what people were saying yesterday. It was pretty much a sea of mud, with boards starting to show the shapes of the beds. The display said something about it being based on a dig, so I suppose they must have discovered that that was part of the original layout.

When we were there the November before last it was even more of a sea of mud. ;-)

It'll be interesting to see the differences when they finish the new garden. Obviously they felt the new version would be enough of an improvement to warrant all the extra work.

They did actually do an archaeological dig in the garden, as well, I think, as find out more about how the garden used to be.

I thought that was what I had read - so presumably the original had the fountain. And given they wanted to do the dig, they would have had to start again from scratch anyway, I suppose.
