A fun weekend - TS AGM in Coventry

Last weekend was my first trip away since the op, and I had an excellent time. I met a lot of friends and some interesting new people.
The AGM was remarkably firework-free and much to our relief some very helpful people such as
wellinghall,
the_marquis and
wildfyre stepped forward to volunteer to help out. We also have a new MemSec, though we'll have to see whether we can inveigle her onto LJ. :-)
Yesterday we went to Kenilworth Castle, and although the weather was fairly bad we had a good visit. I even managed to climb right to the top, though that was enough, and I needed to go and sit in the cafe and eat excellent leek and potato soup. I hadn't taken my camera this time - but for anyone who's interested I've put the pictures I took on my last visit (2003) on my flickr account.
For those of you who missed the garden that was currently being recreated, I've put my picture of what it used to look like .

On the health front I've been signed off work for another two weeks, and have a consultant's appointment on Friday, so then we will have to see whether I am fit to go back to work. As I mentioned to a number of people at the weekend, I will probably take
muuranker's advice and go back part time to start with.

As someone who went through the fairly long time off work, I can certainly recommend going back part-time to begin with. It really takes it out of you.

Date: 2008-04-21 05:08 pm (UTC)My manager seemed to be pretty accepting of the idea when I raised it, before I had my op. Without wanting to seem big-headed, I think they would probably rather have me for some of the time, than not at all. :-)

Date: 2008-04-21 07:21 pm (UTC)I remember the garden well - I've been there in Roman kit several times, which is a bit anomalous! I forget why they're redoing it.

Date: 2008-04-21 07:46 pm (UTC)They're putting a fountain in the middle, from what people were saying yesterday. It was pretty much a sea of mud, with boards starting to show the shapes of the beds. The display said something about it being based on a dig, so I suppose they must have discovered that that was part of the original layout.
