One of the good things about working for a franchise/local partnership is that we are more closely involved in supporting local charities and organisations.

This year, we're sponsoring the local rugby team, for example. :-)

Yes, the women's team as well...

We also received an award today for our work with a local project aimed at helping people who have barriers to employment into training, education and/or jobs - the GEM project. These things are good publicity, but it's also very encouraging to see the kindness and willingness to help my colleagues as individuals have displayed when working with people who have a lot to contribute, but need some extra help along the way.

Still squeeing...

When I heard that the 50th Anniversary episode was going to be shown in cinemas, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of. Yes, there was a risk of being distracted by bad behaviour, but I wanted to be part of the occasion. After all, when was the last time Doctor Who was in the cinema - Peter Cushing and the Daleks? In reality, my brother and I had a great time, sharing with a varied audience whose only real thing in common was a love of the Doctor - older couples who may have been watching the show from the beginning, families with children and lots of young people.

Cut for spoilers, just in case )

Also a new Doctor Who vid by [personal profile] usuallyhats - Into the Blue a great addition to celebrating 50 years.

It's about love.
sally_maria: Sarah Jane Smith and the Brigadier from classic Doctor Who (Sarah Jane and Brigadier)
Yesterday was a good day.

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, I've been thinking for a little while that it would be nice to get a comfortable chair for my bedroom, so I can sit in there with my laptop. I really wasn't sure where to start, but after seeing lots of expensive and not at all the right sort of chairs online, I decided to look in the various charity second-hand furniture shops in town. I found exactly what I was looking for in the Sue Ryder shop - not just the comfortable armchair I thought it was but actually a La-Z-Boy (think the US pronunciation) recliner, in pretty good condition, for less than £40. :-)

In order to get the chair into my room, I had to do some clearing up of the Piles of Junk(TM) that always accumulate because companies will insist on sending me stuff, and lots of TS paperwork. After a couple of hours, I had a lot of recycling, some rubbish, and some much more organised paperwork - it really felt like I'd achieved something.

Finally, to top off an excellent day I finally managed to finish screen 133 on Candy Crush, which I've been stuck on for weeks. :-) I'm sure I'll be reverting to the mean soon, but in the meantime I'm enjoying it.
sally_maria: (Arthur - for the plot)
Apart from Arthur in a towel. ;-)

Thank you to everyone who replied to my last post. There's no immediate prospect of a sale, but things are moving on, so I hope to have some better news about it soon.

In the meantime, I thought I would resume normal service and talk about the things that make me happy.

Cut for teal deer )
sally_maria: (Rodney - Happy Dance)
I went to the breakfast table this morning and found a package, which I wasn't expecting at all.

There was a card with it, which was sealed, with actual sealing wax, which is so cool - I had to make sure I kept that intact, for posterity. :-) And inside the package was a wonderful necklace from the lovely [personal profile] bella_luugosi. :-)

Thank you so much, my dear - you've made my day and sent me to work with a great big grin on my face. I may not be able to avoid Rodney-style happy dances. ;-)
