I never did post about going to see this with
gayalondiel, five or six weeks ago - life just took over.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, though. As someone who's loved the Eagle of the Ninth since I was at junior school, I wasn't sure how I'd get on with the changes for this adaptation, but they worked for the film, IMO. Of course, it didn't do any harm that one of the things the writer decided to do was to turn the slave-fic tropes up to 11. ;-) It's the slashiest film I've seen in a long time. (Then, so is the book, in a quieter way. Reading it again, after probably more than 20 years, it's interesting to find how many of my friendship-bond OTPs are pre-figured in it.)
Of course, I'm also happy that it's led people to the book who would probably never have come across it otherwise *waves to
ardyforshort*.
Anyway, a couple of vids to give you a flavour of the story and Marcus and Esca's relationship.
First there's
talitha78's Mykonos
( Marcus and Esca on a road trip of love )
Then there's
merlenhiver's Dangerous
( Warning: Depeche Mode song, so this isn't a fluffy take on their relationship. ;-) )
