Turned into a cat... (Fluff Warning)

I've mentioned to several people that I meant to do a set of recs where one of our heroes is turned into a cat, and never got round to it. So I thought rectober was the perfect excuse to actually make it happen.
The first story I ever really noticed with this premise was in SGA. The fandom(and the show) had a traditional of alien technology doing unrealistic things, so it wasn't such a great stretch to imagine that John Sheppard could be turned into a small black cat, or that Rodney, with his canonical love of cats, would be the best person to protect his interests.
The Checkmate 'Verse by Bead
"Once upon a time, I wrote a little fic called Checkmate where for some unknown reason, John Sheppard had been turned into a cat. And then the whole thing took on a life of its own and all of a sudden there were mumble-mumble chapters of the whole thing, and, well.
It all started, as these things do, with mission, a shaman, a vision quest ceremony they decided to participate in to be sociable, then all of a sudden, things weren't so ceremonial..."
It's one of my favourite ever feel-good series, with roles for many of the Atlantis team. The romance grows out the trust and closeness they learn from the situation, which is one of my favourite things about animal transformation stories.
Merlin, with canonical magic and a YA tone, was an excellent fit for animal transformation stories - I still wish for the end of the series where Merlin got turned into a merlin - but cats were certainly a popular option. A common theme was that Merlin had to be in hiding for some reason, and that Arthur may not even realise that the cat he's become attached to was his big-earred manservant. :-)
Lemon Meringue by adelagia
"Arthur exiles Merlin for his own safety, but even from afar Merlin manages to make his presence felt anyway."
I love Arthur's deliberate obtuseness: "Lemon Meringue.
Arthur squinted. On further inspection, it might have said Love, Merlin, but love and Merlin resolutely did not go together, especially not with the letter 'I' in front of them, so Arthur made himself settle on the meringue. Perhaps Merlin had been feeling peckish at the time."
A Prince's Tale of Cats and Warlocks by dornfelder
"Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic, and he reacts badly. In the aftermath he's left to deal with the consequences and the pieces of a life that refuse to fit together as they used to. On his way towards understanding (and, perhaps, reconciliation), he gains an unexpected, albeit reluctant ally – of the furred and four-legged kind. It takes more than a few words of regret to earn a warlock's forgiveness, though."
This time Arthur has more to learn, and Merlin more to forgive, but time and non-challenging closeness bring them back together.

"Somehow Merlin gets himself turned into a cat, Arthur's befuddled, Morgana's bemused and intrigued, and the knights somehow gets involved in this mess playing matchmakers. King Uther is not amused. Whatsoever."
Light-hearted silliness, as the knights, Gwen and Morgana make use of a random transformation spell to help push Arthur and Merlin into each other's arms. :-)
Magic is canon the Avengers universe as well, and while I haven't come across that many cat transformations, this is a brilliant one.

"WTF KITTEN" could be the summary for most of these stories, but in this case it's Tony Stark who wakes up one morning as a kitten with a craving for coffee. This is comics Tony, and Extremis means he can still communicate with the team, but fighting giant lobsters isn't easy when you are a kitten. He gets to snuggle with Steve Rogers, though, so it isn't all bad.
I've been reading and enjoying a lot of Teen Wolf fic over the past few months, and naturally there are animal transformation stories - quite apart from the werewolves, of course. This being a universe where the characters haven't had so long to learn to trust each other, this is the spikiest of the stories in this set, though there's still some excellent bed sharing.

"I had a conversation one time (uh, five times) with drunktuesdays about Derek Hale being a cat, and we kept having to just stop talking because it was so true that we had nothing more to say. So here's that fic!
Derek gets turned into a cat. Stiles learns to be a cat person."
Derek the cat is suitably hilarious, and Stiles is obviously the perfect person to take care of him. Not.
