Crossovers

One of the things I love that fanfic can do that canon usually can't is the ability to bring together characters from different fandoms and/or let them explore each other's world. This is a really mixed bag of stories, united only by the fact that I enjoyed them, and I hope you might do so too.

Displacement (The Longest Three-Week Day)
by michelel72 (Rodney McKay/Donna Noble)
"Another day, another "science conference" gone horribly wrong. For once, Dr. Rodney McKay gets help saving the world … but then Donna Noble remembers."

Almost everybody I know hates how Donna's story ended, with her returned to Earth with no memory of her travels with the Doctor or the ways she grew and changed in that time. But she's still good in a crisis, can type a hundred words a minute and doesn't get put off by abrasive geniuses - and Ancient technology is good for fixing all kinds of things. :-)

I know I'm usually pretty much a die-hard McShepper, but this really works for me in not downplaying the closeness of their friendship, and in making Donna a wonderful addition to the Atlantis team, rather than a substitute.

Feast of All Fools by AJHall (Torchwood/Lord Peter Wimsey)
"Spring, 1940. In a remote German Army base a captured British intelligence officer resists interrogation and waits for death. But his family has influence even he never suspected they possessed and help is at hand from a wholly unexpected source."

Jack Harkness's presence working for Torchwood throughout the 20th century makes him perfect crossover fodder, and I love his interactions with Lord Peter here. Prepare to be boggled by the ending, but I can't resist the image of Peter's family connections with Torchwood. :-)

Time Flies Like a Bullet by Dira Sudis (Sherlock/?)
'"Whenever I start feeling like what I'm doing is pointless," he typed, without looking over at Sherlock, "like I've failed completely, I remember my first tour in Afghanistan."'

This is something of a stealth crossover, which works perfectly well as a Sherlock story in which some OCs are mentioned, but for fans of both shows there's that extra spark that comes from recognition of just who Holland and John are.

I'm not a sucker so I don't need a bodyguard
by musesfool (Angel/Batman)
"Cordelia's been in the game long enough that she can spot a secret identity from a mile away."

Cordelia is sent back, this time to Gotham City. The Cordelia voice is excellent - and her ability to talk her way into jobs fighting evil remains undiminished.

Unsuited for surveillance
by TheArticulatedTurnip (Yes Minister/The Professionals)
"Hacker isn't sure which is worse: being trailed by CI5, whoever they are, or the lamentable dress standards of the security services"

Cuts by the Department of Administrative Affairs threaten CI5's budget... Wonderful Yes Minister voices and the usual Civil Service shenanigans.

On Track by ML Mead (The Professionals/Steam Trains)
"Bodie and Doyle, a day off and a very large train set."

Finally, not exactly a crossover - but you can't tell me that steam trains don't have a fandom. :-) Bodie and Doyle mess about in a steam engine.

An engine that probably looked something like this.
