Last week
narahttbbs did a Desert Island vids meme - pick your 10 favourites. And I promised to have a go myself.
What I had forgotten though, was that I've been downloading vids since 2000. Six years and about that many major fandoms later, plus some minor ones and vids I downloaded from recs, and I have over 21 Gigs of vids on my hard drive. If you asked me to name my top 50 vids, I might manage to include most of my favourites.
So these are just 10 that appealed to me this weekend - ask again in a couple of weeks and I could give you a completely different answer.
1. I Enjoy Being a Girl by
absolut3destiny * (Multi-fandom). A wonderfully light-hearted look at "girls kicking ass" - Sydney from Alias, Buffy, Veronica Mars, Zoe from Firefly and Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica.
2. Destiny Calling by
charmax * (Multi-fandom). An excellent look at super-heroes via various films - Batman Begins, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Spiderman and the Incredibles. The dangers of fame and the parallels in their lives.
3. A Fire is Burning by the Media Cannibals (The Professionals). Action all the way - "We did our best work in the dark. We did our thinking on the run. We would hang together. Or they'd hang us one by one."
4. Have You Heard by
yhlee (Angel). An overview of all five seasons - everything may be going wrong, but you don't give up.
5. Here Come the Sun by Daniel Chang (Studio Ghibli). One of the first anime vids I ever saw - linked by
thefourthvine in her post here. It just always makes me smile - a wonderfully sweet and light-hearted vid.
6. Exile by
wolfling (Doctor Who). An angsty Nine vid - "there's no going home"
7. Stargate Cantina by
brihana25 (Stargate SG-1)."Stargate SG-1 is nothing like Star Wars. - Okay, so there was that one time..." :-) A very clever SG-1 comedy vid, probably one of the best known in the fandom.
8. Another Train by
barkley * (Stargate SG-1). The life and times of Daniel Jackson - The Tragic Version. A brilliant song for Daniel, and sung completely a cappella - the musicality in making this vid really shines.
9. Right Here, Right Now by
hollywoodgrrl (Stargate Atlantis) Wonderful action vid - the fast cuts are spot on and it captures a lot of the excitement of the show, with an excellent use of effects to enhance the vid and not overshadow it.
10. White and Nerdy by
wiccanslyr (Stargate Atlantis). One of the appeals of Rodney McKay is that he is nearly as geeky as his fans - great humorous character vid.
