For [livejournal.com profile] ladyofastolat, who has recently been overcome by Stargate Atlantis. I thought I'd list some of my favourite gen stories. If anyone else has a story to add, please comment and let me know.

I've already mentioned [livejournal.com profile] ltlj 's Retrograde series, but she's also written a number of other excellent SGA stories. Her web-site is here.

Two of my favourites are Fellow Traveller (The team meets an alien who may or may not be helpful. There are misunderstandings, and Wraith.) and Inescapable (Lorne's team, with the help of some Athosian traders, rescue Atlantis from Lucius Lavin. But they can't find John anywhere. This is an AU, an alternate ending to episode 3.3, Irresistible.)

[livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine has a unique take on SGA, written very much from the military perspective. Her site is here.

Two very different stories are The Care and Feeding of a CO (Lorne invites a recovering Sheppard to accompany his team on a traipse around Atlantis.) and The Jenny Code (All of the conventions that were supposed to make Earth's fighting 'civilized' -- the sanctity of women and children, the giving of quarter, the treatment of prisoners -- were largely absent here in the Pegasus galaxy. It was a function of fighting the Wraith, an enemy that did not even comprehend the concepts of mercy or 'non-combatant', and it hardened the hearts of everyone. It would harden them, too, eventually. Rated R for violence.)

[livejournal.com profile] friendshipper's web site is here.

I love the way she handles the John&Rodney friendship, particularly in long stories like Running on Empty (Action/adventure, h/c, friendship. Sheppard and McKay are captured by Wraith, implanted with trackers and released to run and die.). She also writes team stories, such as the wonderful Postcards to Jeannie (Humor, team, friendship. Teyla starts sending postcards to Rodney's sister on Earth; soon everyone else joins the fun.) - a funny, touching combination of images and text.

When it comes to gen, I've read some excellent Teyla stories, giving her perspective on the strangers who have become her family. Athosian for Beginners by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone is labelled Teyla/Rodney but to me it reads as a wonderful friendship story. When the gate network's translation device stops working, the team has to learn a new way of communicating.

To Sing For by [livejournal.com profile] siegeofangels shows Teyla learning about Earth music and in the process gaining more understanding of her Earth friends.

Ronan has also found a new family on Atlantis - Where the Running Stops by [livejournal.com profile] tielan is an episode tag to Sateda. The team that drinks together, stays together. :-)

Finally, it wouldn't be an SGA rec list without at least one transformation story. Those wacky Ancients have a lot to answer for, but when it produces stories as cute and funny as The Illustrated Rodneysaur I'm not complaining. (John spends the day looking after a dino-fied Rodney.)
