RL but also more Merlin

In a lot of ways it's been the week from hell, but thanks to many of you for coming to my assistance in my new job as pretend furniture. In particular, thanks to
gayalondiel who made a job I really wasn't looking forward to a lot easier and more comfortable.
Still, I can't stress all the time and I did promise a Merlin picspam. :-) But first, another wonderful
astolat story - Onfindan which starts with Arthur in a sulk and ends with him showing what a great king of Albion he'll be. That shows Merlin how he can become not just Arthur's lover and his friend, but his counsellor and support. It just blew me away.
So it begins with this chap called Merlin, who arrives at Camelot one day...

And he meets another guy, Arthur

At first they don't get on terribly well...

But Merlin saves Arthur's life and is "rewarded" with a job as his manservant
Over time they grow closer

With a little help and advice from the Slash Dragon

And eventually Merlin invites Arthur home to his village to meet his mother

And I'm saying nothing... ;-)

Date: 2009-01-11 10:20 am (UTC)The show's following in LJ media fandom is certainly influenced by outside factors such as the end of SGA and, as I said in my last post, by a number of major slash BNFs being early adopters of the fandom.
It may wind up being one of those markers of slash fandom, at least in the US - I can remember in my earlier days in slash being told that if you met an American who knew The Professionals they were pretty much guaranteed to be a slasher, as that was the only way it spread across the pond. :-)
These days anyone could be watching, but I still suspect that most of the non-offical audience will be fans dragged in by the rush towards the new shiny.
And thank you very much for the expressed confidence - it's a sad day that it's come to this, but we seem to be pulling together now and hopefully we can come out of this stronger, and me with my old job back. :-)

Date: 2009-01-11 06:51 pm (UTC)And your description of the fic now has me really tempted. Must work on own fiction, not look until after Jan 31 - little treat ;)

Date: 2009-01-11 07:06 pm (UTC)I hope you enjoy the story. As with a number of the more thoughtful fanfics, it starts to find ways of linking Merlin into the stories of the adult Arthur that we are familiar with but without drastic changes to any of the characters we know. (No Morgana suddenly going evil.)
