In honour of [livejournal.com profile] rhymer23's new story - On The Wings Of An Eagle I realised that I hadn't linked to a couple of her hilarious short pieces.

Typo fic - for everyone who finds themselves amused by malapropisms and typos in fanfic. I'm particularly taken with the rouge Genii.

The Games People Play - for anyone who's witnessed how computer games turn the mildest soul into ruthless killers. ;-)

And I linked to her See John Run a couple of years ago, but overlooked the sequel Hello, Rodney!. Both are quite wonderful descriptions of the state that story telling has descended to in our schools - with extension activities, and for Hello, Rodney, an optional slash ending. :-)

Ooh thanks for the rec - I've just spent a happy hour reading the funny ones, and am saving the new one for this evening :)

Yes I love that about John and Rodney :)

I decided ages ago that I was only going to read slash, in self-preservation! There is just so much amazing fic out there, I had to make a limit somehow. But I will always read a good, meaty gen fic too. Like A Taste of Apples - I'm so glad I wasn't put off by the gen tag on that one.

Thank you! That's a nice trip down memory lane for me, too, since The Games People Play was one of my first ever SGA fics, nearly two years ago. I have plans for more typo fics, too; I caught one just today in a final edit of Wings of an Eagle ("currant" for "current", which produces lovely images of people swept away by a fierce, strong currant.)

Thanks for the links. I thought I'd comment here, rather than directly on "The Games People Play", as that seems rather an old thread, but I felt I had to point out that I DID once trade with goblins (or rather orcs) and quite successfully too (though not for soft linen, root vegetables or even lemon cake). Still, my character earned far more experience points custom-making leather fetishwear than he ever did doing nasty, dangerous things like fighting. In fact, I think that - after he settled down near Tharbad and published his mail-order catalogue - he was making more money from bondage gear than the drug smugglers of Rhudaur from (whatever cocaine is called in Middle-earth)...

Oh, and I haven't checked recently, but I'm pretty sure that it is still true that "You cannot eat dead Elrond"!
