House News

So, the good news is, somebody has actually made an offer on our house. It's not as high as we would have liked, but prices are dropping, and it's actually lasted more than 24 hours, which has got to be a good thing.
The bad news is, both the houses we were looking at in Winchcombe have almost certainly sold - I suppose it's possible they might fall through, as they have before, but the signs don't look good for that.
So having spent the summer with a house to go to, and no buyer, we now have a buyer and no place to go to...
We'll keep looking, but we can't guarantee that we are going to find somewhere suitable any time soon. :-( Even though we are down-sizing, we still need a fair amount of space for the books, and we were really pleased with the idea of a converted bungalow, where basically the parents could live downstairs, and I would have the upstairs.
So good thoughts, prayers and fingers crossed that we'll find the right place would be much appreciated.
Still, it's not all bad.
chocolate_lovers has started reasonably successfully, and
red_trillium has posted an excellent chocolate truffle recipe. Do go and post about chocolate. :-)

definewisdom. Warnings: Large amounts of crack and silliness. Mornington Crescent (it comes with its own warning).

Meanwhile, if you have a buyer, there might be an argument for putting stuff into store, moving out, and renting, just so you can be ready to purchase the place y'all want when you see it. Otherwise, in the present state of the market, this may still not be when you move.

Date: 2010-10-20 10:19 pm (UTC)We have thought about renting, but I think for us it would be a too-expensive option, particularly when you add the cost of storage as well. We'd be eating into the capital from the house, for no great long-term benefit.

That is an educated guess, not a prediction!

Date: 2010-10-21 07:13 pm (UTC)Yes, it does seem the best solution, but unfortunately it's a bit more specialised than just a standard house, so a little more difficult to find, particularly in a smaller town like Winchcombe. Oh, well, we're still trying.
