For the loan of the Gatchaman DVDs, which arrived this morning. I was a little concerned because I knew they were Region One, but they play fine on my laptop. I don't know whether this is because I've probably never played a Region Two disc in it, so it's just defaulting to the first type that it experiences, or whether the software on Linux doesn't make the distinction.

Anyway, it's fascinating to see the similarities and differences, and at the moment I'm irresistibly reminded of those wonderful creature feature, Godzilla vs the monster of the week, films that I used to stay up far too late to watch on Channel 4. :-)

There are certain episodes - though, sadly, I can't remember which ones - which compare really interestingly with BotP. I remember several in which the entire emotional point of the episode was turned around in the translation.

Thanks for the pics! I can never resist that classic scenario of ignoring injuries to save the day. I once coined the phrase "heroic staggering" for this, and have seen several people use the phrase since. :-)

Oooh, I shall have to look out for those. elegaer has very kindly lent me the second half of BotP, so I may be leaping ahead to do comparisons.

You're welcome. I'm afraid I'm not such a fan of whumping as you are, but still, a good bit of heroic staggering is always a welcome addition. :-)
