sally_maria: (Boys of Atlantis)
So, I finally get the time and energy to write about the Atlantis convention I went to last weekend (con crud is not just a myth). Still I don't want to bore all of you with unnecessary details, so I thought I'd do a highlights version and then a long one with photos, just in case you're actually interested.

The first thing I should say is that I had a wonderful weekend. I caught up with people from Gatecon and made some new friends *waves to [livejournal.com profile] orandream,[livejournal.com profile] suekay_87, and [livejournal.com profile] tipsywitch*. The guests were great fun and even the queuing (of which there was a lot) meant a chance to talk to new people. Cons are rapidly becoming addictive, and I have a strange feeling this won't be my last.

Some of the highlights of the weekend for me:

Seeing Chuck the technician walking past us outside the meet and greet, and nobody else believing I'd seen him. (He was a surprise guest.)

Con dances - I really can't get too much of them. A dance floor full of people, including a couple of actors, all line dancing to Doctorin' the Tardis. Also Dan Payne and David Nykel trying to do YMCA on the stage.

David Nykel generally, such a nice guy, shaking hands with everybody and stopping to say hello.

David Hewlett's Q&A being interrupted by a Cyberman on stage (he's an avid Doctor Who fan). Oh, and K9 all over the place - I now have wallpaper on my phone.

The Costume Competition - some inspired costumes. I'm just wondering if the ZPM did it deliberately as scientist bait - because it worked. :-)

Kate and David's combined Q&A, with much sibling teasing.

My photo with David and David, when the flash kept shining off my glasses, and I had to stand there with his arm round me while they tried again, and again. Such a trial. :-)

And Ryan Robbins, who paced around the stage so much that the stewards taped his feet to the floor. :-)

Did anyone else see Primeval this evening? I thought it was pretty fun - cute guys with angsty pasts, the Forest of Dean (looking suitably spooky) and DINOSAURS. :-) I shall certainly be tuning in next week - something to keep me going till Doctor Who starts again.

And Life of Mars starts again next week as well, it's months since I've had something to actually turn the TV on to watch. *does happy dance*

Now I'm curious. I'm obviously pretty familiar with the Forest of Dean, it's pretty close and also where my maternal grandmother came from. But I'm wondering just how well known it is if you're from other parts of the country or even further afield.

So a poll. And if you have any other answers please let me know as well.
