Nostalgic grumbling

I still miss the old days on LJ. :-(

I'm very grateful to all of you who keep posting here, and making my friends page worth reading - I'm afraid I've got too discouraged by a combination of not having much of interest to post about, and the fast food interaction of immediately discussing it on Facebook. It's fun at the time, but you can't go back to it later - it's a poor substitute, but when that's where the people you are closest to are posting, what can you do? And Tumblr, which is where most of the fandom part of my old LJ experience has moved to, is even worse for actually having conversations.

*shakes cane and resolves to try and post here more often*

I know much of fandom has gone to tumblr, but I've tried it, and it doesn't work for me, so I stay here and on lj...

Yes, me too. Pretty pictures are all very well, but they are no substitute for proper discussion. :-(

I've found it a vicious circle, there isn't so much activity, so when you post it feels like no one is listening, and that's discouraging, particularly when there are easier places to post pictures or short text.

I just hope that fandom will move again to somewhere that I can feel more at home.

I know...I feel like I'm drifting in a fandom-less void at the moment...I stuck with tumblr until it was actually infuriating me with every visit, and I regret ever going off LJ, but I only left because it was so quiet. I'm going to stick about this time though :D

I always use LJ for chatting and sharing. I have accounts on Facebook and Tumblr but mostly use Facebook for games and find Tumblr had to figure out.

I think Tumblr is one of those things that can work really well for you, if you want to share pictures and short text pieces, and get lots of "likes" on them. But I like reading conversation, and Tumblr makes that really difficult.

Facebook! It's hard to give up on it, since it's so ubiquitous and it's nice to stay in touch with people who are online nowhere else.

But I wish I had the strength of character to spend less time on it's deliberately-addictive Pringly lack of nutrition. I mean, I like to feel I chose my addictions, not that they are sitting there with a vast multi-million pound budget and a staff of way too clever people all scheming to make them *more* addictive. Bah!

Yes, it wouldn't be so bad if you could just ignore it, and never go there, but when it's the only way of keeping up with some people, it's so easy to get sucked in.
