Absolutely heart-breaking, and I can quite see why it has been so critically successful. My inner moralist wants to say that they should never have got back together after they were married, while my inner romantic so wishes that they could have lived together and had their happy ending. In their real world, there was no way of that happening.
It's so difficult to think about the film without considering its social impact and yet, one of the things that makes it succeed as a film is that it isn't an "issue picture", just a story about these people and their own particular tragedy. If that can make even tabloids like the Sun give a film about "gay cowboys" a rave review then maybe the world is changing, even just a little.
