Answers under the cut.
1. How do you define your nationality/heritage (e.g. English,British, American, Southern, British Asian or whatever other word/phrase suits)?
British (As far as I know my descent is all English - unless you count the Cornish great-grandmother - but I have always considered myself to be British.)
2.If you were being sent to a desert island and could choose between an unlimited supply of books and an unlimited supply of writing materials, which would you take with you, and why?
Books - I may like pens, but I'd quickly expire of boredom with nothing to read.
3. Would you rather lose your hearing or your sight?
Hearing, definitely - see above re: reading.
4. What is the earliest major news event you can remember?
The Queen's Silver Jubilee, which she had the good taste to celebrate on my fifth birthday.
5. Do you have any phobias?
Heights, or at least uncontrolled ones.
6. Which five people (living, dead, real, imaginary) would you invite to a dinner party?
The problem is that if I invited any the fascinating famous or fictional people I can think of, I'd have to hide in a corner and hope they didn't notice me. I can be seriously shy with people I don't know.
So I'd have to say, any of my friendslist - it would be impossible to only pick five.
7. If you had to place yourself on the political spectrum in terms of centre/extreme left/right, with appropriate modifiers and a get-out clause for anarchists, what would you say?
On the right of centre, but with a lot of caveats - generally I tend to be a conservative (small c).
8. What's the best place you've ever visited?
I've been to a lot of wonderful places, but I think the best would have to be Lee Abbey - North Devon sea coast, wonderful sea and countryside views.
9. What was the moment in your life when you were most nervous (that ended up having a good outcome)?
My first AGM, I think - I had to find this hotel in the middle of Birmingham, something I was less used to then, and had no idea what to expect. But then I saw
wellinghall and Creatrix and they were so welcoming, in spite of only having met me briefly once before, that I felt much better and got into the classic TS habit of rearranging the furniture. ;-)
10. What would you like your Patronus to be? Why?
A Black Panther - they're just so wonderfully sleek and dangerous looking. Of course, my real Patronus would probably be something like a mouse.
11. DW question: which is YOUR Doctor?
Peter Davidson, absolutely. It was in the years before video recorders and I was at Brownies on a Wednesday night, so my parents had to watch those episodes and tell me what happened.
12. Who's the most famous person you've ever met? What happened?
Well, there's the usual list of Tolkien related suspects - Ted Nasmith, Brian Sibley, Rayner Unwin etc, etc. And then the people who come to do signing sessions at work - I once helped manage a queue for Atomic Kitten (I think I should have it engraved on my tombstone. ;-) )
13. Which book would you most like to have written? Why?
Well, I'm not a writer so I really haven't a clue - one that would gain me interesting fans, I suppose. Not a lot of them, just enough to have sensible discussion with.
14. Which instrument would you most like to be a virtuoso on?
Well, I think it would be singing rather than an actual instrument. I can sing, but my voice is nothing special - I'd love to be able to use it properly.
15. Have you ever used a Brutal Honesty meme to be mean about somebody?
Never - I'm no good at being mean, at least not deliberately.
16. What's your favourite food?
Chocolate - or if you're talking proper food, roast beef.
17. And your favourite alcoholic drink?
Rose wine, I think - particularly the Australian ones.
18. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Probably not.
19. Which film would you most like to have directed?
See above - re: book writing.
20. Which sport would you most like to win an Olympic gold medal in?
Gymnastics - it was the only sport I wasn't completely useless in, but I did used to enjoy it.
21.If you could put yourself as any person/type of person in any place in any period of history, who/what/when/where would you be, and why?
If I was being romantic about it - I'd love to attend a ball at Almack's and help rescue the hero from the evil relative who is after his title and fortune. But then I realise I'm actually much happier being me, with the Internet and modern plumbing. ;-)
22. What's your favourite piece of religious/spiritually-inspired art, music or writing? (Interpret as you will)
The Screwtape Letters - it's both funny and incredibly observant of the vagaries of human nature. When it comes to music, I'd have to go for The Messiah, however obvious.
23. Tell me about 3 journals on your flist that you find particularly interesting (either for style or content), regardless of whether I've got
them friended or not.
I'm going to have to go for the completely unoriginal line about all my friends being interesting, I'm afraid.
24. What's your favourite piece of clothing that you own, and where did you
get it?
For best - the red silk skirt I got in Monsoon. I actually paid full price for it, I liked it so much, but it's definitely been worth it.
For comfort - my black jumper I've had since I was a student. It's pretty worn these days, but it's such an old friend.
25. Which places would you most like to visit?
The Shire, Minas Tirith, Atlantis. Oh, you mean real places - Egypt, Canada, Paris, Edinburgh.
26. Tell me something else about yourself.
I haven't grown any taller since I was eleven, so I used to be the tallest in the class.
