It's one of the minor weirdnesses of the current situation that food shopping has become a significant topic of conversation, rather than just background noise.

We've kept to our routine of a major fortnightly shop, with top ups from local stores, though trying to rationalise those to once or twice a week. And we needed petrol this week, for the first time since lockdown, which actually meant seeing roads I haven't seen since March. It was busier than in previous weeks, but I'm not sure whether that was due to the relaxation or just because it was Thursday rather than Wednesday. There are still weird shortages - no Worcestershire sauce? - but staples have been fine for the last 6 weeks at least.

Then this morning it was off to the pharmacy to pick up my parents' monthly prescriptions, and I actually found some masks on sale. I must admit that as out in the countryside as we are, I hadn't worried too much as it's been easy enough to avoid people on a day to day basis, but I'm glad to have them for future supermarket visits.
