Fun Weekend

On Saturday I caught the train up to Birmingham to the Memorabilia show at the NEC. It's rather like a smaller version of Collectormania - various actors (of varying degrees of fame) signing autographs and lots of stands selling toys, cards, DVDs and some books. I decided Billy Boyd's autograph wasn't worth £20, but it was interesting to see him, all the same.
I went to meet up with
starbird57, who lives in Brum. So when we'd looked around, had some lunch, and I'd resisted the urge to blow £180 on the complete set of Highlander DVDs, we got the bus back into Birmingham and went to Forbidden Planet. I was very restrained and only bought my own copy of Cordelia's Honor, which means I have no excuse not to return
wellinghall's.
Then we went back to starbird's, who cooked a wonderful moussaka, which I hadn't tried before, and showed me her photos from Vancouver. A few months ago she went to the official Stargate convention, which includes set tours and tours of the filming locations. You have to sign an agreement not to post photos on the Net, but there are no rules about showing them to people in person. So I got to see starbird standing on the Gate ramp and next to the Atlantis gate as well. It sounds like a wonderful trip - not something I'm likely to be able to afford anytime soon - but definitely worth living vicariously.
Unfortunately starbird has two cats and half an hour after being greeted enthusiastically by one of them, my allergies started acting up. I've never been allergic to cats before. I don't want to be allergic to cats - I like cats. (At least as long as they don't start eating frogs in the middle of the living room.) :-( Hopefully it was a one-off and it won't happen again.
After Atlantis watching we went to bed fairly early, since I'd been up until 2.30am Friday night making sure AHEditor got his Snippets. :-) Sunday was a lazy morning, with more Atlantis and croissants and I eventually got the train back home at about 3pm, just missing a major thunderstorm, which didn't get here until 6-ish.

Date: 2007-07-11 06:47 pm (UTC)So are you ready for the con dances at P3? Definitely one of the high-lights of con-going as far as I'm concerned. :-)
(Somebody took some extremely dark video at P2 - here.)
