To the lovely [personal profile] bella_luugosi, with the hope that today will be a good day.

Now with added pic spam. :-) )

Football

May. 5th, 2010 09:56 pm
sally_maria: (Bradley Railway Station)
I'm not a football fan, in fact for the imminent World Cup shenanigans, I'm quite happy to declare this journal a football free zone. I cheer for Spurs for reasons of family loyalty, and Cheltenham for local pride, but I'll happily go the rest of my life without watching another match.

Except of course if Bradley James is playing.

See jhava's account of events at the United Relief Celebrity match on Saturday, with lots of pictures of my favourite blond. :-) His team won, and he scored in the penalty shoot-out, so hopefully he might get asked again.

Meme?

What I'd like people to do is to post pictures - no more than one or two - of interesting places, landmarks or buildings in their town. Either the town where you live, or where you grew up - somewhere that you maybe still associate with the idea of home.

Tell us a bit about the picture and why it's interesting. We all get to see the tourist pictures of the world, but not so much about the smaller special places that mean something to us.

I'll start it off, but I hope more of you will be interested to do it as well.

Cut for pictures of Cheltenham )
sally_maria: (Merlin Arthur Cartoon)
One very good reason for supporting Children in Need, if you needed one. :-)

The whole Merlin CiN sketch on YouTube

And what happens when Merlin forgets to pack Pudsey (the U rated version) - "You forgot Pudsey, you pay the consequences. Obviously you’re too large and too bony to make a proper stand-in for my dear Pudsey, but you’ll do in a pinch." *grin wide as Merlin's*

More under the cut - can't leave Colin out )

Because I had to work today - 6 day week this week - and a long day tomorrow as well. Christmas set up is one of my least favourite things, but it has to be done, if only to satisfy the customers who have been asking us for Christmas cards for weeks. (The cake was taken by the guy who insisted that my supervisor should tell Head Office to start the Christmas displays earlier - because he didn't have time to deal with Christmas shopping in October and November...!)

But it is Bradley James's birthday today, and I wanted a permanent link to some of the celebratory pic-spams. :-)

On [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius's journal.

The highly industrious [livejournal.com profile] gealach_ros

And [livejournal.com profile] domluver's post.

And some of my own, under the cut. )
sally_maria: (Doctor Ten)
but until I have the energy to do one - the photos I took today are on my Flickr account.

And under the cut the Cake Slice's latest adventure

You see there was this man with a strange blue box... )
sally_maria: (Arthur Prat)
Is mostly looking at pictures of Bradley James playing football. (iz incurably shallow. ;-D)

But we did go out to look at cameras, as mine is 6 years old and Mum had said she would get me a shiny new one for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

I fully intended to do a long post about my holiday in Cornwall, but I came back to a lot to do and really the time seems to have passed. So just the short version and a link to my photos on Flickr.

I had a wonderful time in a part of Cornwall I'd never visited before. Highlights included:

Falmouth Maritime Museum - a really interesting, family friendly museum. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and at all interested in boats and the sea.

Land's End - lots of touristy exhibitions but also some beautiful countryside, and having been to John O'Groats, it only seemed right to complete the set. And the Doctor Who exhibition - a multimedia show rather than a museum exhibit, but a lot of fun. It's no doubt my childish side but I still enjoy the nervous thrill of being shouted at by a Dalek. :-) My pictures from there.

St Ives - a fascinating town and one I really want to visit again.

Goonhilly - a must see for anyone interested in communications technology or the history of the past 50 years. Not just because of the free Internet. ;-)

Gweek Seal Sanctuary - a fascinating place, all the more because it feels real, a little run down perhaps, not just a glossy tourist attraction with perfect animals.

And the St Ives to St Erth railway line is just beautiful and had me humming a certain song about Slow Trains for a lot of my journey home. :-)
sally_maria: (Merlin Heart Arthur)
In a lot of ways it's been the week from hell, but thanks to many of you for coming to my assistance in my new job as pretend furniture. In particular, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gayalondiel who made a job I really wasn't looking forward to a lot easier and more comfortable.

Still, I can't stress all the time and I did promise a Merlin picspam. :-) But first, another wonderful [livejournal.com profile] astolat story - Onfindan which starts with Arthur in a sulk and ends with him showing what a great king of Albion he'll be. That shows Merlin how he can become not just Arthur's lover and his friend, but his counsellor and support. It just blew me away.

So it begins with this chap called Merlin, who arrives at Camelot one day...

Snow!

Apr. 6th, 2008 11:40 am
sally_maria: (McShep Want)
Like most of the UK people on my flist, we woke up to snow this morning. :-) It's been a while since we've had snow that settled like this, and though it's well on the way to melting now (it's a beautifully sunny day), first thing this morning it was quite impressive.

There a photo under the cut... )

And there a few more on my Flickr account.

And before I forget, I've been spending rather more time on Facebook lately, having found a really fun application called (fluff) friends - but I've been very amused by some of their ads. You know you've been a slasher too long when you can't resist an ad that starts "Sash your dream date and slash the losers" (with whom one wonders :-D). And then the button reads, "Start Slashing", though I don't think it's a link to crack_van.
sally_maria: (Animated Narnia)
I really must learn that some people will behave badly, and that often righteous indignation doesn't do anything other than leave me het up and shaking. Take several deep breaths and move on.

Move on to some wonderful things.

A wonderful photo-manip (completely work-safe). If you are interested in what can be done by a talented artist - or the thought of John Sheppard in a Napoleonic Navy uniform appeals at all ;-) , you should look here.

Two excellent (though completely different) SGA team stories by [livejournal.com profile] rhymer23.

Photoshop is mighter than the sword - "and, anyway, Teyla said it was an affirmation of life and fellowship, and absolutely not a 'drunken orgy' and we're her team and can't trample on her beliefs by opting out, because it would have been wrong" – and so they decided to mark it in the traditional way. (with Photoshop ;-D)

Midwinter Burning - "Midwinter," she said, "is the shortest day. It is the time when light and hope wavers on the point of extinction. Darkness and despair is on the point of triumphing. But it is also a time for hope." She struck a spark, and that tiny orange light turned the faces of her friends into faces of strangers from the other world. "Light and darkness are locked in an everlasting battle. Since midsummer, the light has been losing, and night has gained a little more with every day. Here, at midwinter, the darkest of the dark, the light has triumphed. From now on, days will grow longer, nights will get shorter. This is the darkest night; now comes the dawn. (Spoilers up to 4.10).

A McShep vid - A Fairy Tale of Atlantis on YouTube .

For those of you who want something other than Stargate Atlantis - Diane Duane [livejournal.com profile] dduane's Invictus, a tale of a small hero on the Solstice.

And finally for those of you who haven't already seen it on [livejournal.com profile] frodobaggins252 and [livejournal.com profile] gayalondiel's journals, some wonderful Christmas music.

sally_maria: (Another shirt ruined)
Let's vary piracy, with a little burglary!

Ways of cheering up after a hectic pre-Christmas day at work.

Watch an excellent Australian production of the Pirates of Penzance. v.v. funny

Look at [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's SGA picspam.

Do a meme, from [livejournal.com profile] sgflutegirl and [livejournal.com profile] wellinghall.

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list.

Some of you I know relatively well. Some I know very well; several of you I even know in RL.

Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? It can be any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips." I might feel compelled to mock your musical taste, but I'll certainly remember you.

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.
sally_maria: (Atlantis)
It has been a bit of a disappointing weekend. Mum and I planned to visit Stroud Farmers Market this morning, since it was my last free weekend before Christmas, but the weather was so unpleasant - pouring and blowing a gale - and I'm currently full of cold, so we decided we'd better not go.

So I was very pleased to read [livejournal.com profile] elanor_isolda's account of her marathon viewing of SG-1, and her asking whether she should be watching Atlantis.

So I thought it might be nice to come up with some good reasons why she should. :-)

Art links

Oct. 9th, 2007 08:37 pm
sally_maria: (Watchful Dragon)
For anyone who is interested and didn't catch the links in comments on the Oxonmoot post.

My dragon print was painted by Jef Murray, and and this is his website - lots more beautiful mythical beasts.

The nice lady I met in the Art Show is called Becky Carter-Hitchin, and [livejournal.com profile] shanith very kindly gave me a link to her Elfwood gallery. You can see her pictures much more clearly there than on the photos on Flickr. She has a stylised Celtic look to her work that I love.
sally_maria: (Daniel Hamlet)
[livejournal.com profile] the_marquis has already given a detailed account of last weekend's festivities, so I won't go on about what a wonderful weekend I had, or what great hosts he and [livejournal.com profile] na_lon are. Still I'm looking forward to the next Stargate weekend. :-)

As well as lots of SG-1 episodes, we also watched quite a lot of vids, including [livejournal.com profile] brihana25's wonderful Daniel Jackson 101. So I was very pleased to come home and find links to somebody else's survey of Daniel Jackson - fashion victim. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] niamaea describes the project thus - In the interest of recording our hero's intrepid journey from disaster to delicious, and because time warps are always fun, I present to you, Jacksonian Fashion: a visual history of the good, the bad, and the plaid. And so Jack fans don't feel left out, she's done the same for him.

For anyone who doesn't know enough about SG-1 fandom (and even more for those of us who do) [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine recently added it to her Fandoms I Have Loved series. Go, read, laugh your head off- and realise that yes, Daniel did die that many times. :-(

Finally, for [livejournal.com profile] the_marquis, in gratitude for several delicious meals and many amusing songs about how gorgeous Daniel is, that Xena vid that I never got round to showing you. I'm not a big femmeslash fan, but phew. :-)
sally_maria: (Vala age)
[livejournal.com profile] dduane's journal is a source of lots of good stuff. Do you remember the classic Star Trek episode Trouble with Tribbles? Have a look at this lolcats version - and spot the interloper at the end. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] anna_luna has done some wonderful cartoon versions of the SGA characters but she also has a talent for photo manipulation. For anyone who likes Battlestar Galactica as well as SGA - Battlestar Atlantis.

Another wonderful piece - Captain Jack or should I say Captain Jacks - here.

And finally icons - from a wide range of fandoms, Supernatural, the Stargates, Heroes, Firefly and Buffy. See the icon on this entry for an example. :-)

Links :-)

sally_maria: (Rodney -grin)
In honour of David Hewlett's birthday - [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon is hosting a picspam here. Loads of wonderful pictures of Rodney and David's other roles - go admire. :-)

For those of you of a more historical bent, somewhere I found a link to this wonderful animated version of the Bayeux tapestry. Well worth a look.

Finally, for anyone looking for clever icons, a whole load of classic quotes. Sources include Jane Austen, William Shakespeare, Dr. Seuss, Einstein, Mark Twain, G.K.Chesterton, Oscar Wilde, Dorothy L Sayers & fortune cookies, etc. (to quote the maker).
sally_maria: (John Rowr)
I hope those of you who are into that kind of thing are already reading the [livejournal.com profile] 3daychallenge International Fuzzy Bathrobe Day Challenge. If not, go read, there are some excellent stories there.

In any case, though, all John fans really should go and look at this picture here. I'm usually more of a Rodney girl, but all I can say is GUH. :-D
sally_maria: (Rodney - Bliss)
Before Pegasus 2, the wonderful artist [livejournal.com profile] anna_luna, offered to do a drawing for anyone else who was going.

She did me a wonderful picture of a young John and Rodney scrumping for apples, and she's posted a colour version here. Go admire, it's the one at the bottom of the entry - and while you're there check out the really cute Zelenka with pigeon. :-)
